Backache Remedies At Home
Backache is one of the most common ailments found in large number of people around the world. Sedentary living habits and hazardous working pattern has lead to an increase in stress which in turn has caused contraction of the muscles leading to backache. Back supports the weight of the entire body. So people feel the strain on the back when they have to lift or carry an extra load.
Most backaches can be felt around the middle, lower back, both sides of waist and the hips. Backache can be mild or severe. In mild backache, the patients find relief after taking some rest, while in severe backache the patient may have to be bed rested for days.Majority of backache patients suffer from what is called cervical and lumbar spondylosis.
Causes of Backache
The main causes of backache and
spondylosis are poor posture, incorrect sitting position, lack of
exercise, muscular tension, strain in the joints etc. Some other
causes for backache are problems in kidney or prostrate, female
disorders, influenza, and arthritis. Improper sitting for a long
time, lifting of heavy material or weights, wearing high heel
shoes are some common causes of backache. Emotional problems may
also painful muscle cramping and result in backache.
Rest - Best Home Remedy for Mild Backache
Rest and Rest is the best home remedy.
Most back problems which are not severe and are considered to be
mild will go away if the injured muscles, ligaments and tendons
get time to heal. You are advice to take rest for some time if you
have mild backache. Spend a few days in bed if you are having more
than mild backache. But do not over do. Resting for more number of
days will result in weakening of muscles, which can make the pain
worse. When you are suffering from backache it is recommended you
rest for a few days. But then slowly start returning to your
routine. If backache continues, take few rest breaks during the
day.
Hot and Cold Treatment Along with Massage for Treating Backache
If you are having severe backache, apply
packs of ice wrapped in towel to your painful areas for fifteen to
twenty minutes. This has to be done several times a day. Back pain
may often cause swelling. Applying cold help relieve the swelling.
In a day or two you will start feeling better. When the pain is
reduced change your treatment from cold to hot. Use a hot water
bag or a heating pad wrapped in a towel. Heat should be applied
several times a day for fifteen to twenty minutes. This helps in
improving the circulation and helps in healing of the backache. A
gentle massage is also good for easing back pain.
Garlic – Home Remedy for Backache
Garlic is believed to be the most useful home remedy for backache.
Two or three cloves of garlic should be taken every morning to get
the best results. Oil is prepared from garlic and is applied to
the aching back. This gives great relief from backache. To prepare
garlic oil, fry 8-10 cloves of garlic in about 50 ml of oil. You
can use any oil such as the mustard oil, sesame oil or coconut
oil. It all depends on your choice. The garlic cloves should be
fried on a slow flame until they turn brown. Allow this oil to
cool. After the oil is cooled it should be applied on the back.
Rub the oil vigorously on the back and allow it to remain there
for three hours. Take a warm bath after oil massage. Do this for
at least fifteen days.

Maintain Good Posture While Sitting
to Avoid Backache |
Regularly exercise to strengthen your back muscles and make your
back flexible. Always bend at your knees and let the muscles in
your legs support the burden while lifting things. Avoid using
soft mattress for sleeping. Use a firm mattress instead. Sleep on
your side with knees bent. Avoid sleeping on your stomach. Women
should avoid wearing high heel shoes. These are the worst type of
shoes for your back health. Maintain a good posture when you are
standing or sitting. Support your lower back when sitting for a
long time.
